Celebration Squared

We've had reason to celebrate the past couple of days. Last night we celebrated Abby's 1st Birthday, and tonight Allie's first time participating in the Awana Grand Prix.

Even though Abby actually turned 1 on thursday we had the official party here at our house last night. There was lots of food, lots of family and friends, and lots of good times. We began the night by sacrificing many of Gods creatures on Cams gas grill. The temperature was dropping fast outside, so the plans of eating on the patio were eventually abandoned by everyone and we headed inside. although it was pretty crowded having about 30 people in our home, it was great to see them all here to celebrate Abbys birthday. Abby didn't really care one way or another what was going on, she thought it was just a normal day.

If your a fan of "Cars" the movie you will be familiar with The Piston Cup. Tonight we had our own version of that in the Awana Grand Prix. Allie has worked hard all week decorating her car for the big race. The finished product couldn't have screamed allie any more. It was her favorite color of purple, with butterfly stickers, and an Arial sticker from the Little Mermaid. She spent alot of time painting and working on the car. We were very proud of how well she did. After she was done it was my turn to attempt to make it actually roll. although I've assisted with the King vehicles in the past, i've never been the head engineer so the pressure was very high. After lots of drilling, gluing and sanding the final product was at least functional.

I told Allie that the car was not to be a "toy" until after the big race. So we handled it with kid gloves. Then at the check in station after we signed in during the hand off it got dropped and bounced about 3 times. Luckily the glue held and all wheels and head lights were in place. When the gate for racing finally dropped, "the little mermaid" smoked her first competitor. Allie threw her arms up and said "i'm going to get a trophy" it was pretty hilarious. When the night was finally over, allie had won 2nd place in design, and 3rd place for speed. She was on cloud nine. She held up her two trophies and said "i got two piston cups" It is amazing how a molded piece of shiny gold plastic can have such a big impact on a little one. We were all proud of team heady, and the car has now become a toy as promised. Below is a short video of our first race where we smoked the competition.
