The Bucket List

There is a movie out right now called "The Bucket List". Although i've not seen it, I know the main plot is these guys have a list of things they want to do before they kick the bucket. Well even though i don't have a written list, there are certain things that I would like to do before my appointed time. I'm not a traveler who wants to see the world, really could care less about seeing the Pyramids. Im pretty pleased with the things i've been blessed with. I would like to own an iPhone one day, maybe retire alittle early nothing too crazy. One thing that i have always said I would like to do however, and really didn't think it would ever happened with a pending retirement, is to go see Jay Leno live filming "The Tonight Show".

Well apparently there has been some covert discussions going on over the past several months about a surprise trip out there to do just that. Today was a non traditional lunch day for me. Most of the regular gang was out of town. So i gave into the powers that be and went to the Tea Room. The food is always good there, but it has just never made it into a steady lunch place for me. Well since lots of folks were out of pocket i invited all my crew to come eat, along with Cam & Tara. If Tara and Samantha were on death row there is no doubt Mirandas is where their last meal would come from, so i knew they would be excited about the trip. Sam has big day in store anyway with "Lost" finally coming back on TV tonight. When we first got there Allie had to wash her hands so i took her in there. Apparently while we were soaping up is when Sam put the master plan into deploy mode. She had the Tonight Show tickets in hand and gave them to our waitress to give me when our food came out. Well our food came, plates were taken away, drinks were refilled, dessert came, bill came and I started to pack up. Although i didn't know at the time, sam was getting prety steamed because the waitress had forgotten.. lost the tickets... claimed them for her own.. who knows. So sam heads to the restroom and passes by the waitress and says aren't we missing something? Waitress says no. Sam says YOU SURE? She says no. Sam says what about the blue tickets i gave you when we came in? At this point i hear the waitress go "OH MY GOODNESS". I have no clue whats going on, but all of a sudden waitress comes and steals my tray that the bill is on and disappears. When she comes back she lays same bill and tray down in front of me but there is a ticket below it that says "Tonight Show" Well i'm pretty shocked at whats happening, because everyone but me knew what was going on. Sam was trying to tell me that i was leaving on a plane in a couple weeks. The waitress was trying to apologize. It was a crazy few minutes. Before i tell too much more let me just say, Sam rarely gets really steamed, but she was this time for sure. She has been planning this with the help of Cam and others to have it spoiled at the last moment was just not an option for her. The original plan was to get the tickets and spend the entire meal discussing the trip etc. I guess in hind sight i can see why sam kept looking at the waitress each time she would come to our table! ha ha. Hopefully this will not taint her memory of Miranda's ha ha.

So i guess let me back up alittle now that you know the story. Let me fill in some gaps. As many of you know i recently accepted a new job at TTU. That really put a monkey wrench in the plans of my little covert ops team apparently. This was all supposed to fall around my 30th birthday in March. It is usually frowned upon to take leave right off the bat at a new job so the team began to scramble. The tickets for the tonight show are not absolute in the planning stages either. Apparently you send in 3 dates you wish for, then they just send you up to 4 tickets for one of those dates. And they will only send them 2 weeks a head of time. So as you can tell planning was going to be tough. From what i gather Bignate was going to be in on the trip but i think the timing of it all has messed up those plans. It looks like at the current moment it will a brothers only tour. Cam and I will be flying out, and doing something that we have both talked about for years. I have high hopes for the trip. It is guaranteed to be more than just a check list of things to do before the bucket kick arrives. Over the next several days many plans will be made, Tivo's will be set and blogs will be primed for the Leno Tour '08. Stay tuned here for all the news. Congrats to Sammy, this the first time she has ever completely blind sided me with a surprise. I think cam's sneakyness helped her out. Normally the best laid plans of sammy are always found out before they come to be. Not this time, i'm still sitting here thinking about it and trying to figure out what is going on.
