Yet another meeting

This week found me at the annual winter IT meeting for UT. I started to blog about it, but decided against it. Even though my entire life is on the Internet i still hold pretty firm to the idea of not broadcasting my where abouts until after they have happened. I'm not crazy about telling the world wide web to come pillage through my house while I'm gone... anyway that's neither here or there. The meeting went pretty much as expected... lots of yada yada's with little resolution to any problems. The only interesting fact i learned while there dealt with the number of emails that ut filters through. For all emails sent to @utk.edu or @tennessee.edu UT forwards those through two barracuda filters to remove spam. They showed us the website that displays the graph of all emails filtered. Amazingly while we were there, UT was getting about 3.2 million emails each day, and 2.9 million were spam. That's pretty staggering! Any of those coming to extension get filtered again, and still filter out about 70% again. I can hardy picture that much email!!! Good grief. Will spam eventually get so big that email will die off? interesting idea read more here.

This years meeting did have one bright spot, all the gals got to come up and spent tuesday night with me. Sam, allie and abby came up on tuesday and visited several places on Kingston Pike. When my meetings were over we partook of the best the Olive Garden had to offer and then went back to the hotel where Allie and I took advantage of free elevators (she called them alligators) and all the neat places you can walk around. To a three year old staying in a hotel is just about the most amazing thing on the planet. I have to say that it makes staying in one much more enjoyable than just staying by yourself surfing free internet waiting on the next meeting to begin.

you really need to get a "buzzword" bingo game going at one of these big meetings you have to go to. have everyone put in $5 to make sure someone will actually stand up and yell bingo in the meeting.
