Today marked our trip home from Missouri. Traveling with 2 small people isn't always easy, but i have to say that our girls did really good. One neat story that came from the trip home happened in lower Illinois. Anyone who as driven through there will know there aren't many gas stations. As we traveled down the state i noticed that we were getting pretty low on fuel. As we began to look the hand kept dropping. Sam's van is notorious for getting to a 1/4 tank and then falling like a led balloon. Well just when i thought we weren't going to make it to a pump a small town came into view. Just like in the movies Superman came in to save the day. We were at Metropolis Illinois. There they say welcome to Metropolis "home of superman" also saying come see our giant Superman statue. So after we got fuel, we did just that. The statue was about three miles up the road but was worth the trip. The whole town had Superman stuff everywhere. I have to say it was a pretty awesome little town. Well worth the stop if your ever in the area!
A Star Trek episode was once titled "All good things" referring to how all good things come to an end eventually. Tonight we finally made it back home. It is always great to be home. Some would even say.. theres no place like home, and i would have to agree with them. It took us a total of about 12 hours to make the trip home today. Thats road time, eating time, gas time, and the Kentucky mysterious lane shut down for no reason time. I want to give a special thanks to Nate and Kara for an awesome few days. They are great hosts, and paid for way too many meals for us. We are very appreciative of all they did for us while we were there. And am looking forward to next years trip.
Base life is an interesting experience. I'm always amazed by it. There is an awesome sense of pride and patriotism on base. So much so that it's inspiring to just be around. Words like duty, and honor seem to have more meaning there. I'm sure that every life style has some ups and downs when you get to the everyday parts, but I highly recommend any Bignate friends to go see them and experience it for yourself. I think you'll walk away appreciating your freedom that is provided by these folks daily on a deeper level.
