Greetings all! Well it's Christmas Eve. Its hard to believe that its here, but time seems to fly by these days. I wanted to take time and write to the millions that read this blog before we start our journeys tonight.
First off the cool stuff. Sam and i decided to hold off on our presents this year and put any money we would spent toward a video camera. The one we used to use when allie was a baby died a while back so we have been experiencing once in a lifetime moments without any video of it. So we decided to change that and looked at all kinds of cameras. Naturally i'd like to have one that shot in HD but budgets don't allow that type of camera yet. So i did alot of searching and settled on the Sanyo Xacti you see above. We placed the order on Amazon saturday at Noon, and then today (monday) it arrived here around 12:30. God bless those brown trucks that make for holiday miracles!! Ha ha. My main criteria for this camera were tiny in size, and easy to pull off footage. This camera is certainly both of those. Although i don't think it has the quality of a higher dollar camera it will be super easy to grab and do quick shots and post them on the web and archive on the computer. It saves to a SD card so you can pull it off in about two seconds instead of playing real time like a tape camera. Another cool thing that i have not had the bravery to try yet is it is water proof down to about 5 feet deep. I watched lots of video on the web of this being done, but i figure i'll tape Christmas before i give it a whirl ha ha!! As soon as it charged we did our first test footage with abby as the subject. See for yourself, it does pretty good.
Now the tradition. Way back when... and no one really knows why or where. Our family does this thing called "Christmas Eve Gift" The game is simple, you just have to say "Christmas Eve Gift" to other people before they say it to you. Simple yes, but without strategy? I think not. I reflect on my grandpa alot when I play this little game, as we used to try to get him first. When we were little we would say it as we ran into their house on Christmas Eve. As we got older Cam and I would stay up and make phone calls. We would wait and call Papa at 12:00 midnight and he would always answer "Hello" instead of "Christmas Eve Gift" and then we'd talked about how the sneak attack phone call was unfair but still counts ha ha. These days technology has come into play and many of the attacks are done via text messaging. What ever the delivery method, the game lives on. No one knows it's origin, Nanny just says its always been there. So i'm sure one day our kids will send virtual "christmas gifts" or something, but until then. Let the games continue by what ever means you see fit.
Merry Christmas Everyone!!
